What is virtuous training?
What can help us succeed in our lives?
Virtuous training is the force that pushes us, helps us, to act better, with the aim of deserving the esteem of those we esteem.
It is the counterpart to the natural slope of ease, which we discussed in the question What is difficult to overcome to succeed in life. Moreover, just as with the injunctions to be a 'good ...' or a 'good ...', which we encountered in the context of that other question, one may be tempted to respond to virtuous training by pretending, and in that case, the effect is negative.
To succeed in life, we primarily have two resources: our own will and virtuous training. In the absence of virtuous training, it is very difficult not to become discouraged; therefore, it is desirable to modify, if necessary, our circle of intimates to include people whose actions generate virtuous training.
Finally, we note that being in a social environment where virtuous training is practiced is one of the main sources of happiness.
